Syksy, Marimekko, 2023

The Syksy collection is a series of glassware for the set table that plays with the rich heritage of Marimekko.
The company, founded by Armi Ratia in 1951, is best known for its remarkable production of patterned textiles, which has earned it a unique position in the world of design and fashion. Their design language moves without effort along the high street but also has close ties to the radical progressive movement of the 1970s. There is a seductive resistance in Marimekko’s soul that the work with Syksy has sought to capture.

Syksy is Finnish and means autumn.
The patterned surfaces of the glass series depict the image of a gentle, drizzling rain at the turn of September and October – that time of year when Helsinki, Stockholm, or any other Nordic city is at its most beautiful with a mix of melancholy and a remaining festive spirit.
Each piece in the collection has its own interpretation of the theme, but they are united by the way the patterned glass interacts with light. They glitter and shimmer, behaving almost liquid. They make a statement. They seduce, yet carry a progressive resistance that gives them a distinct and unique identity.

The project was initiated in 2021. The first pieces were launched two years later, and since then, the Syksy family has been continuously renewed. The original wine glass, carafe, and water glass have been complemented by a side plate, a deep plate, a generous bowl and a larger tumbler. The very latest addition to be released during fall 2025 is a neat and elegant flute for sparkles during informal celebrations.
